Goodreads Book Tag

I’ve seen this tag going around for a while now, I like the questions and enjoy reading  people’s answers, so I decided to have a go my self. I’ve been using goodreads since 2012, although I have since abandoned my old account after it became cluttered. I created my current account after I discovered the online book community, and it dates back to November 2014. My profile can be found here, if you’re interesting in being friends over there.

What is the last book you marked as “Read”?

History is all you left me by Adam Silvera. It was a 5 star read for me and I definitely was not expecting to cry at this book as much as I did. It had such an emotional impact and is so well written. A full review is currently in the works, I’m still processing everything.History Is All You Left Me

What are you currently reading?

At the moment I have two books marked as currently reading. The first is Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray, a sci-fi adventure set in space, so far I am really enjoying it.  The second is The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams, the first novel in a high fantasy series, I’ve had to take a break from this one as I felt like I was slipping into a reading slump.

What was the last book that you marked as “To Read”?

The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember, I’ve been hearing so many good things about this book that I definitely plan on reading it. It has mermaids, Loki and a F/F romance. What more could I ask for? This book is coming out towards the beginning of May and I honestly cannot wait!

What book do you plan on reading next?

I never know for sure but A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab and The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli are definitely at the top of the list at the moment. Although, I must confess, I’m scared to read A Conjuring of Light because I’m not ready for this series to be over and I’m fairly sure that this book will break me.

Do you use the star rating system?

Yes, I find it really helpful. Although half stars needs to happen. When a book falls in between stars, I often don’t know how to mark it on goodreads. I feel bad if I rate to the next star down because I feel like the book deserved more, but rating to the next star up feels awkward because the book didn’t quite reach that mark for me. I try to be more specific on my rating and feelings for the book through my review, but the stars are like a quick reference, that you see first. I just wish I could be more accurate.

Are you doing the reading challenge this year?

Yes, I set my goal for 60 books this year, it worked well for me last year that I decided to stick with it. It works out at about five books a month, which is normally a comfortable reading pace for me, if I can do more, then that’s great, but it’s not always possible with working full-time and other commitments. It’s going well this year, I’m currently five books ahead of schedule, which feels great.

Do you have a wishlist?

I have a TBR wishlist and a kindle books wishlist on Amazon which I use to keep track of all the books I want to read. I also have a wishlist on Book Depository. But I’ve never shared them with anyone.

What book do you plan on buying next?

That’s a tricky question, since there are so many books that I really want, but I’ve been making an effort to buy fewer books this year because my TBR has been getting out of control and I’m running out of space! Having said that, the next new release that I am definitely buying is The Hate U Give, which comes out in April in the UK.

What is your favourite quote?

I haven’t really added any quotes using good reads. That’s not to say I don’t have favourites, I just don’t use that feature on goodreads. I prefer to tab quotes with sticky flags or use the highlight function on the kindle app.

Who are your favourite authors?

I honestly forgot that you can mark favourite authors on goodreads, so I haven’t updated this in a good long while, and it definitely needs doing, but they are:

  • Marissa Meyer
  • Sarah J Maas
  • Mira Grant
  • Brandon Sanderson
  • Maggie Stiefvater

Are you part of any goodreads groups?

Yes, I’m not really that active on any of them, but I do want to do better, I just get so shy and chicken out of joining in.

What could goodreads do better?

I love that goodreads recently added the ability to track rereads, before I was always reluctant to reread a book and risk falling behind in my goodreads challenge. Also, I like the idea of being able to see all the times I’ve reread a favourite book. Now all I need is half stars. I’m sure that I’m not alone in this, and I’ve already talked about the why earlier in this post, but this is now my main gripe about goodreads.

I’m not going to tag anyone specifically since I wasn’t tagged myself, but if you want to do this tag, please consider yourself tagged, and let me know in the comments because I really do love to see how everyone answers these tags.
