January 6th – New Year, New Books
Hello everyone, it’s been a while since I posted anything for Six for Sunday, and I’m trying to change that for 2019. I’m making an effort to renew my enthusiasm for the things I love this new year, and my blog is one of my main focuses. One thing that I’m not having to work on is my enthusiasm and excitement for all the wonderful books coming out this year. If anything, my goal to buy fewer books is going to be a real challenge this year. So, without any more babbling, I’m going to tell you about six of my most anticipated 2019 releases.
1. The Wicked King – by Holly Black (The Folk of the Air #2)
Publication Date: 8th January 2019
I have been desperately awaiting the release of this book ever since I read and adored The Cruel Prince last December. I pre-ordered myself a copy months ago, and can’t wait for the email to say it’s on the way. Holly Black has a special talent for creating stories full of dark twists and compelling characters. I’m excited to see where this book takes Jude and Cardan. I’m almost certain that The Wicked King will be a five-star read, and I can’t wait to get lost in its pages.
2. King of Scars – by Leigh Bardugo (Nikolai Duology #1)
Publication Date: 29th January 2019
I was so excited when this was announced. I adore Leigh Bardugo’s work, and honestly, at this point I’ll read anything she writes. This is another book that I pre-ordered months ago, because I need it in my hands as soon as possible. I’ve always wanted to read more about Nokolai, and I can’t wait to get back into the Grishaverse. I think this book will give me a lot of feelings, and will probably end up being a five-star read.
3. The Gilded Wolves – by Roshani Chokshi
Publication Date: 15th January 2019
Everything that I have heard about this book is telling me that I’m going to love it. It’s got an ensemble cast of characters, its dark, full of mystery, and apparently it has an amazing angsty romance. I am 100% here for all of it. It actually kind of gives me Six of Crows vibes, which I love. Plus I know from reading The Star-Touched Queen that Roshani Chokshi has the most beautiful, rich writing style. I can’t wait to get my hands on this beautiful book.
4. Bloodwitch – by Susan Dennard (The Witchlands #3)
Publication Date: 21st February 2019
The Witchlands is one of my favourite ongoing series. I was enchanted by Truthwitch, and loved the way the story and characters developed in Windwitch, now I can’t wait to see what happens in Bloodwitch. I actually recently started a reread of the series to refresh my memory so I can jump right into this as soon as it comes out. I adore the characters in this series, especially Iseult and Aeduan, and I expect that this book will give me so many feelings. I’m so ready.
5. A Girl Called Shameless – by Laura Steven
Publication Date: 7th March 2019
The Exact Opposite of Okay is one of my favourite books of 2018 and all time, so it’s not surprising that its sequel among my most anticipated releases of the year. I cannot wait to find out what Izzy will get up to next. Laura Steven’s writing is both hilarious and brutally honest, tackling important feminist issues such as slut shaming and revenge porn. I love an empowering, entertaining feminist novel, that can make me feel a range of emotions, and I think this book will do just that.
6. Slayer – by Kiersten White
Publication Date: 21st February 2019
I’ve been a huge Buffy fan for at least a decade at this point, so naturally this book caught my attention when it was announced. I’ve never actually read anything written by Kiersten White before, but I know that she is a huge Buffy fan, so I have high hopes for this book. Normally I’d be hesitant to get my hopes up for a book inspired by a beloved television show, but since this book is a new story, following its own characters, I feel a lot better about it. I’m looking forward to getting to know this newest slayer.
What 2019 releases are you the most excited for? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!
