August Book Haul

August just flew by. It’s been a pretty busy month, from being on holiday, to catching up on work, to my 24th Birthday. There hasn’t been a lot of down time, and I’ve definitely managed to accumulate quite a few books. My family knows me well, because I got quite a few books as gifts, and I love them all.

Daughter of the Burning City – by Amanda Foody

Daughter of the Burning City (HC)

This was the book featured in July’s Fairyloot box, I was on holiday when my box arrived so I didn’t un-box it until this month. I have already read it and totally loved it. It’s such an interesting and unique concept, I love the idea of a murder mystery in a fantasy setting, and it works really well here. Also there are some really great illustrations scattered throughout this book that work as a really nice addition to the story.

Solitaire – by Alice Oseman

I picked this up in a local charity shop for a good price. I’ve been seeing this book around for a while, and had been wanting to pick it up. Plus, I was really sad that day, and I often turn to shopping as a way to make myself feel better. I’m hoping that I will get to this one soon.

Radio Silence – by Alice Oseman

I’d been wanting to get my hands on this for a while, so I was thrilled when I unwrapped a copy on my birthday. I’ve actually already read this, and I totally loved it so much. I have a lot to say, so I’m working on a gush/review post that will hopefully be up soon.

After the Fire – by Will Hill

This book came to my attention because of its inclusion in the current Zoella book club, but it was one or two reviews that really sold me on this book. So again, I was so happy to receive a copy for my birthday. And continuing a surprising trend, this is another book that I’ve already finished. In fact I couldn’t put it down, this is a powerful book.

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone – by J.K.Rowling

My sister knows me so well. She got me this gorgeous Hufflepuff hard cover edition of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, and I love it so much. The stained pages are stunning and I love showing my house pride.

The Little Book of Witchcraft – by Astrid Carvel

The Little Book of Witchcraft

This is one of the cutest little books I’ve ever seen, and it’s just as beautiful on the inside. This was a birthday gift and I just love it.

The Little Book of Astrology – by Marion Williamson

The Little Book of Astrology

From the moment I first saw this adorable little hard cover book I was in love, so I was really happy to unwrap a copy on my birthday. This cover is just stunning, and I love astrology.

The Astronomy Bible

You may or may not know this, but I love space. I mean sometimes I get creeped out by the size of it all, but I love all the possibilities. It’s one of the many subjects that I want to read more about, so another great birthday gift for me.

Harry Potter: The Artifact Vault

I’ve been going through a lot of nostalgia surrounding Harry Potter recently, which I think my family picked up on, because this was a lovely surprise on my birthday. I can’t wait to read more about all the magical items from my favourite series.

Harry Potter: The Creature Vault

Another lovely birthday surprise, I love all the magical creatures from the Harry Potter franchise so I am so excited to dive into this book.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post – by Emily M. Danforth

This book has been on my radar for a little while, but it only just came out in the UK. When I saw it on the buy one get one half-price table at Waterstones and immediately picked it up. This book deals with sexuality, specifically, a girl who is questioning hers, and from what I’ve heard, it’s quite an intense, emotional read.

My Favourite Manson Girl – by Alison Umminger

Also published under the title “American Girls”, this book was a slight impulse buy my recent reading mood. It was on the buy one get one half price table, which I find really difficult to resist. This book seems on the dark side, but I feel like it will be an interesting read, and I’m really curious about it.

Wonder Woman Warbringer – by Leigh Bardugo

This was the book included in August’s Illumicrate box, and I was jumping for joy when I unboxed in on my birthday. Leigh Bardugo is one of my all time favourite authors, and I’m so excited to see her take on Wonder Woman.

Nyxia – by Scott Reintgen

Not only did the August Illumicrate box contain an exclusive edition of Wonder Woman Warbringer, it also contained an ARC of Nyxia. Now I don’t know much about this book, but I am excited to read it.

Wicked Like a Wildfire – by Lana Popovic

Wicked Like a Wildfire

This beautiful book came in Augusts Fairyloot box. It’s been on my TBR and wishlist for quite some time, so of course I was happy when I saw it was this months book. This books sounds really unique, and I’m so excited to read it.

So as you can see, August was quite a busy month in terms of books acquired, which is why it took me a little longer than normal to get this post out. I really didn’t want to miss anything out. If you’re still with me after that long post, then thank you, and of course, if you want to chat about any of the books mentioned, please feel free to leave a comment or reach out on my other social media links.

  1. What a fantastic haul!! I read Nyxia a few weeks ago and I really, really loved it. So many fun twists and turns in that book! I just ordered myself a copy of Daughter of the Burning City since I will have the chance to meet Amanda Foody in a couple of weeks at the Boston Teen Author Festival. I’ve been wanting to read it for quite awhile so it’ll be nice to finally have a copy of it!

    1. You’ve just made me more excited to read Nyxia! I’ve not heard much about it before recently. I hope you enjoy Daughter of the Burning City, and have a great time meeting Amanda Foody. I must confess, I’m a little bit jealous! 🙂
