Top Ten Tuesday – Unputdownable books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly list hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This weeks theme is March 21: Read In One Sitting Theme: ten of the shortest books I’ve read, top ten books I read in one sitting, ten books to read when you are short on time, top ten books that will make you read the whole day away, etc.

I must confess that at first I wasn’t sure if I was going to write a post this week. I almost never finish a book in a single sitting (unless it’s a graphic novel), I’m dyslexic and kind of a slower reader, so I felt unable to answer the prompt. Then I saw that some wonderful people chose to interpret the theme as unputdownable reads. That’s something that speaks to me, and immediately books started popping into my head, so without further ado;

1 – The Wrath and the Dawn – By Renée Ahdieh

I actually did read most of this in one day. I can clearly remember trying to eat my meals while still reading, I couldn’t even bear to put it down for half an hour while I ate. It was the perfect read for a warm summer day and I immediately ordered the sequel after turning the last page. The writing was so beautiful and I loved the characters, this book instantly made Renée Ahdieh an auto-buy author for me.

2 – Frostblood – By Elly Blake

While Frostblood is not the most original YA Fantasy out there, it sure is difficult to put down. When I picked this up I was in a pretty bad reading slump, but this was so compulsively readable that it pulled me right out of it. 3 – Close Your Eyes – By Nicci Cloke

I literally finished reading this book while walking home from work. I couldn’t wait the five minutes between the bus stop and my house. That’s how impossible this book was to put down. This is a pretty intense book surrounding a school shooting, which manages to keep you guessing right up to the very end, I have a full review here, if you want to know more.

4 – Vampire Academy/Bloodlines Series – By Richelle Mead

I marathon read these two series’ back to back a couple of years ago in less than two months. I rarely binge read series, but there is something about Richelle Mead’s writing that makes me want to keep reading, even after the end of a book. I wanted to start the next book immediately every time.

 

5 – Poison Study – By Maria V Snyder

This is one of the first books I ever read on my kindle app, and I don’t think I put my phone down in the 24 hour period where I was reading this book. I couldn’t put it down, I was that invested in the story. It’s kind of tense at times and there are definitely some darker themes, but I quickly became immersed in this world. I need to reread this and continue on with the series, because I really enjoyed the writing and want to see where this story goes.

6 – The Raven Boys – By Maggie Stiefvater

I’ve made no secret of my love for this series, and the first book grabbed me from the start. I read this in two days and I literally carried this book around everywhere with me, reading whenever I got a chance. It was so magical and I didn’t want to ever leave the world.

7 – Rebel of the Sands – By Alwyn Hamilton

I actually read most of this in one sitting, I became absorbed into the story and couldn’t put it down until I was done. It was unlike anything I’d read previously, and the twists took me completely by surprise. I kind of wanted to reread it immediately to see if I could pick up on clues and foreshadowing.

8 – Dreadnought – By April Daniels

This book drew me in so quickly. Told in the first person, Dreadnought pulled me in and soon became so invested in the story that I was reading late into the night. I didn’t want to put it down, I definitely didn’t want it to end and I am so incredibly excited for the sequel. 9 – Highly Illogical Behaviour – By John Corey Whaley

For me, contemporary books are typically quicker reads, but with Highly Illogical Behaviour, I really struggled to put it down. It’s quite character focused, and the descriptions of anxiety in this book, were something that I really related to. I do have a full review for this book as well, I’ll leave a link here, in case you’re interested.

10 – Starflight – By Melissa Landers

I loved this fast paced sci-fi adventure, with space pirates. It was a really quick read for me and I need to get the sequel soon. Starflight gave me serious Firefly vibes, and I need more of that in my life. This was another book that I read in just a couple of days.

 

So there we have it. It actually wasn’t too difficult to come up with ten books for this list. I know this post is a little late, but I ran out of time, and wanted to proofread before posting (my dyslexia means I worry that silly mistakes will make people judge me).
