The theme for this week is inaccurate book covers, including covers where the cover has nothing to do with the story, where the cover model looks nothing like the character and cheesy covers for great reads.
I have to admit that for this topic a couple of covers sprang to mind right away, but I really had to think about some of the entry’s for this weeks list.
1 – Acid – By Emma Pass
Looking at the cover of this book I anticipated action and a kick ass, tough heroine. The blurb on the back promised as much, but this book just fell short to be, there was less action and more running, hiding and laying low. It did eventually pick up, but this book fell flat for me, and the model doesn’t really look like the protagonist.
2 – The Vampire Academy – Richelle Mead
I really enjoyed this series, but the covers were just really cheesy, also the girl on the cover does not look like Rose who is described as having dark hair. The rest of the books in the series has the same issues and the spin off series didn’t fair much better.
3 – This Savage Song – By V.E. Schwab
I loved this book so much, but the US book cover with the violin represents this story so much better than the UK edition (pictured).
4 – The Winners Curse – By Marie Rutkoski
Okay, I don’t hate this cover it’s just that the girl in the dress is so not Kestrel. It makes her seem less like the brilliant brave tactician she is in the book, and more like a love interest in need of rescue, especially with that pose. Its not a bad picture, it’s just not right for this story.
5 – Hunting Lila – By Sarah Alderson
I read this book a couple of years ago and quite enjoyed it but cover just doesn’t quite match the tone of this book. To me the cover says contemporary/thriller. This book actually follows a 17 year old girl who is secretly telekinetic, trying to hide who she is. The story is not a bright as this cover.
That my top five inaccurate covers, what covers do you think are just wrong, I’d love to hear your rants in the comments.
